 PYRENEES RANGES 2010 JAMBOREE

MELBOURNE CUP LONG WEEKEND

Friday 29thOctober to Tuesday 2nd November

Description:

The Citywest 4x4 Club Jamboree for 2010 will be held at Glenpatrick, situated 22 klms west of Avoca in Western Victoria. Glenpatrick is approximately 2 hours from Melton via Avoca.

We don’t often get the chance to congregate together as a whole club, other than meetings, so why not take this opportunity to come along and enjoy wonderful company, terrific four-wheel driving, and relaxed camping

General information;

  • Footware;All trip participants, including passengers, must wear fully enclosed footware whilst out on the tracks. As most of the tracks are rocky and slippery, work or hiking boots are recommended.

  • Toilets; Glenpatrick has very good facilities (2 flushing toilets), or you may bring a chemical toilet. No drop toilets. Whilst out driving, there is a toilet at Camerons Campground in the hills, and at Waterfalls picnic area.

  • Phones; Limited coverage is available in the region.
  • Generators;Permitted, with respect to fellow campers.
  • Alcohol;Club regulations do not permit consumption of alcohol whilst on day trips, however consumption, within reason, is allowed within camp.

  • There are no rubbish bins on site. What you bring in, please take out with you.
  • As with all previous Jamborees, we do not have sole use of the areas that we attend and must allow others to share the area, as it is a public domain.
  • Avoca has a good range of facilities if you need anything over the weekend. There is an IGA store, 2 award winning pie shops, Flexiteller (Bendigo Bank), and a small corner store that is open every day. The Mobil garage is also open each day.
  • Ararat(30 mins away), has a Safeway store, fuel, and other shops open 6-7 days per week.
  • Firesare to be lit in provided fire pits, as requested by the Glenpatrick Committee and also by Merv Flett, the local DSE Area Officer.

Meeting Place and Time:

We will be camping at Glenpatrick Common. The Jamboree is due to officially commence on Saturday morning, however Carol and Al Russell will be on site from Wed 27th Oct for those that wish to arrive early. The Jamboree officially ends Tuesday 2/11/08, Melbourne Cup day (the day that stops the nation).

Pleasetry to spread yourselves out when camping to enable everybody to have space and room to move (and utilize the whole area to its fullest).

Directions to Glenpatrick are at Annex A.

There will be signs to make it easier for one and all to get there.

Approximate Distance:

Melton and return, expect to travel approximately 500klm, depending on the amount of 4WDing you do.

Fuel:

Fuel is available at Ballarat (BP and Shell, Melbourne side of Ballarat, 24 hours), Avoca (7am to 5pm each day, Mobil garage), and Beaufort on the western Highway (24 hrs). We recommend that you top-up at Ballarat on the way to Glenpatrick.

Trip/ Convoy Limits;

There are no attendance limits at the Jamboree.

Daily 4WD trips will be limited to 8 vehicles. We hope to run at least 2 trips concurrently each day. Last year we ran up to 4 trips per day, and 2 night trips. We had 45 trucks and 110 adults / kids attend.

Trip Standard:

The Pyrenees Ranges offers a variety of tracks to cater for most 4WDers. Of course the weather will alter all track conditions. Club trip leaders and TEC’s have carried out a recce of the region, and have assessed and classified tracks according to the various experience levels within the club.

Easy/Medium – Low range may be necessary on some tracks with a snatch strap recovery possible.  A few challenging areas needing careful wheel placement are to be expected. All terrain tyres required. Road terrain tyres not acceptable, Appropriate front and rear recovery points (ask if you’re not sure), basic recovery gear (snatch strap, damper, 2 rated shackles (4.7t) and gloves).Proficiency Drivers Certificate desirable. Visitors are welcome.
